Re: Buxton NC

As much as I love fishing, this would just be too brutal. I just cannot abide fishing when the it is COLD & WINDY! One or the other, but not both. My idea of surf fishing is to sit in a nice chaise lounge on the end of a pier, with a cooler alongside and the rods tied to the pier rails. Charlie....

Chickahominy River Catfish

Robert Hawk sent me these photos of blue catfish caught from the dock at Riverside Camp #2 on the Chickahominy River. He used cut shad and bluegill to catch the fish. They weighed 50#, 40#, 30# and ten 2#-6# fish. What a great day of catfishing. All caught while sitting on the dock. Click on the pho...

Re: Occquan River - November 4-5, 2017

Best results were obtained with square billed crankbaits and chatterbaits over sparse grass on flats. Big fish came on weightless 5" Senko on sparse grass covered flats. Other fish were taken from the dropoffs adjacent to grass beds.

Occquan River - November 4-5, 2017

New Horizon Bass Anglers held their annual Classic Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. No complications except Full Moon, DST Time Change, Cold temperatures, cold North wind, foggy conditions and all day drizzle. Fish were biting when patient anglers waited them out. Winner was Mark Light with a two ...

Annual Labor Day Weekend Trip

Just got back from Dragon Run Swamp. What a trip! While it was not the best trip in the 19 years I have been going, it was an extremely satisfying experience. To set the stage, this has been an extremely wet Spring and Summer. It rained heavily on Monday and Tuesday of last week, followed by a sunny...

Re: August 26th-27th Double Report

You gentlemen are not half as excited about the bowfin as Anthony and I are. We will see you on Friday evening, loaded for bowfin, redfish, gar and those pesky bass.

Re: Fish Attractant

I use the Owner Flashy Swimmer with either the 3/0 - 3/16th oz. or the 5/0 - 1/4 oz., depending on the size of the swim bait I choose to use. You don't need that much weight, just enough to allow it to sink to the bottom. If the tide is running hard, you might want to move up to the larger size. As ...

Re: Fish Attractant

While I have not compared the two, I have exclusively used weighted swim baits infused with Berkley Shad flavored Gulp attractant for large blue catfish for the past 5-6 years and have been very successful with them. After getting our limits of bass on the Potomac River in tournaments, we frequently...

Re: July 22nd Report

Seems like you always get into fish regardless of the weather, tide, pressure, etc. It is great to know that there are still a lot of fish in the back end of that creek. I haven't been back there in a while and ought to consider fishing there more often. It used to be my favorite place to fish befor...
